Grand Knight's Message

It is unbelievable to me that my first year as Grand Knight is over. Since my term as Grand Knight began last June, our council has been very busy with many very worthwhile activities. The biggest event came in June when we hosted our 7th Annual Horseshoe Tournament. It was a great success due to the hard work of many of our members. As to date, our Horseshoe Tournament has brought in an excess of 50 Thousand dollars that has helped our council fund the St. Vincent De Paul Society of both parishes, support our local Seminarians and help many that are in need. Some of our many other activities over just the past six months include the following: We hosted a Charter Member dinner for the thirty nine men who started our council in 1974; we started a Squire Circle that is already very involved in both the parishes and our council; we worked the Scottish Games on the West Bank of the river; we hosted a Tailgate Party for a Bishop Kelly football game that was very successful; we were very active in the 40 Days for Life; we helped cook for the Walk for Adoption / Run for Life sponsored by Catholic Charities; we served lunch for the shoppers at Bishop Kelly in support of the Madonna House Craft show; and we held our First Annual Family Fall Fest featuring a Pumpkin Carving and Chili Cook-off.

We also have many good and fun activities planned for the upcoming months, including anothert Knights Hold ‘Em tournament and "Family Night With the Knights," our family movie night at both parishes.

As a reminder, you can view all our upcoming activities by clicking on the Activities link on this website. Please check this website and your email reminders frequently and plan to attend as many activities as possible. When united in charity and fraternity, we are strong.

God Bless all of you and your families, Paul Gorniak, Grand Knight Council 6606

Council Info

St. Elizabeth Lodge, a ministry of Tulsa Catholic Charities that is completely underwritten by private donations from individuals and faith communities, recently started the St. Elizabeth Auto Maintenance Program. This program offers free needed car maintenance to residence of St. Elizabeth’s lodge and ensures the resident knows how to do check fluid levels, tire pressure, etc. The program presently operates with eleven volunteers from St. Benedict’s Men’s Club and some volunteers from St. Elizabeth’s Lodge who work four to six hours on the third Saturday of each month but more volunteers are needed! Volunteers should have good mechanical skills, but no one needs to be an auto mechanic to help. This is an excellent way to give of your time and talent. The average time spent usually saves the clients over $50 an hour in car repairs. For more information or to volunteer, please contact Steve Hanlon at 455-7443 or hanlstep@valornet.com.

Squires
Squires Emblem
The Squires is a Catholic leadership program for young men ages 10-18. Since holding our first investiture of the Edwin A. Hobbs Squires Circle in late October of 2008, our ten squires have already become very active in our parishes and council. Each month, we hold a Circle meeting and we take part in one activity to help our parishes and/or our council. Since October's investuiture, we have helped at the parish pancake breakfasts, we helped at the 40 Days DFor Life commencement activities, and we collected over 1,200 pairs of shoes for poor children in Nicaragua. In the upcoming months, we plan to collect back-to-school items for the poor children in Nicaragua, clean our Adopt-A-Road area in front of the council hall, and collect food supplies for the Catholic Charities food shelf. If you know a young man betwee the ages of 10-18, encourage him to join our Circle. We currently have 17 members in our Circle but we are always looking for more young men who are interested in paterning their lives after the Youth Christ. Our meetings are held the Second Sunday of each month at 3:00 P.m. at our council hall. You can contact our Chief Counselors, Jeff Guernsey & Vinncent LaFayette, if you would like further information on the Squires or our circle.
